NZL Coastal Classic: RP42 Rikki Wins Iconic Race

Bay of Islands, New Zealand (October 27, 2015) – The Coastal Classic Yacht Race from Devonport Wharf to Russell Wharf in the Bay of Islands, is New Zealand’s premier fleet race and has been held annually at Labour weekend since its inception in 1982.

RIKKI, Ray Haslar’s R/P designed 42’ was the Overall Winner of the 2015 race – 64 boats finished the race with 49 DNF’s. KIA KAHA the R/P designed 52 took 5th overall in fleet corrected time honors. KIA KAHA was a Class winner in the 2013 Bay of Islands Sailing Week and the Auckland Regatta.

In 2009 the R/P Supermaxi ALFA ROMEO made Coastal Classic history when she crossed the finish line to set a new course record of 6 hours, 43 minutes and 32seconds at an average speed of 17.9 knots, breaking the 13 year old multi-hull record.
