Congratulations to the owners and crews of the Reichel/Pugh designed yachts competing in the Giraglia Rolex Cup.

Franck Noël’s R/P designed and Cookson Boats built TP52 Near Miss after dominating the inshore event with three bullets in three races taking 1st in IRC Group A goes on to win the Giraglia Rolex Cup Offshore Classic event taking 1st IRC Overall. Near Miss nearly beat the course record previously set in 2008 by Neville Crichton’s 100’ Canting Keel Maxi Alfa Romeo (now called Esimit Europa 2).

Igor Simčič’s R/P designed and McConaghy built 100’ Canting Keel Maxi Esimit Europa 2, after taking line honors and breaking the course record, takes 3rd IRC Overall.

Giraglia Rolex Cup 2012 – ROLEX/Kurt Arigo

Earlier this week during the inshore portion of the event Dr. Vittorio Urbinati’s Reichel/Pugh designed/engineered and Marine Composites built GP42 Paul & Shark Competition won the Coastal Race San Remo – St. Tropez portion of the event by taking 1st in ORC A and then went on to win the inshore portion of the event, scored under ORCi, with two bullets to finish 1st Overall in ORC A. Paul & Shark Competition finished the offshore event by taking 2nd in ORC Overall in the Giraglia Rolex Cup Offshore Classic.

In the combined scoring results for the race to St. Tropez, the inshore racing and the offshore Rolex Cup event Dr. Vittorio Urbinati’s GP42 Paul & Shark Competition finished 1st in ORC Overall to close his string of successful event results in the ORCA Class.

In the combined scoring for all the events under IRC the RP designed and Baltic Yachts built, canting keel 78’ Performance Cruiser Lupa of London, skippered by Jeremy Pilkington, took 4th place overall in IRC0 and Marton Jozsa’s R/P designed and Azzura Yachts built canting keel 60’ Wild Joe finished 5th  in a fleet of 22 yachts competing in their class for combined overall scoring. Unfortunately both yachts did not compete in the initial coastal event but their good performance in the remainder of the events allowed them to finish with a very good position in combined overall scoring. Lupa of London’s performance stands out as the design is a cruising yacht with full cruising interior fitout that was originally launched in 2000.

In 2010 the Giraglia Rolex Cup Offshore Classic was won overall by the R/P designed 72’ Mini Maxi Shockwave.
