Nilaya Earns Overall Prize at Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht Regatta and Rendezvous

March 23, 2014

Virgin Gorda, BVI (March 23, 2014) – The 2014 edition of the Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht Regatta and Rendezvous took to the glistening waters of Virgin Gorda last week for three days of lively racing. A collection of twenty sailing superyachts and a flotilla of motor yachts came together at the world-class YCCS Marina, hosted by Boat International Media and Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, Virgin Gorda.

Closely fought action ensued leaving the top spot in each class open until the final race. Class C in particular showed a tight battle as the yachts Moonbird and Sarafin sat tied on four points apiece. The final cumulative standings gave the Class A win to Filip Balcaen’s Nilaya (pictured) after a near unbeatable performance. Her impressive 1-1-2 scoreline earned her the overall prize – the Boat International Media Trophy – which was presented by Pier Luigi Loro Piana and Boat International Media CEO Tony Harris.

Pier Luigi Loro Piana was equally happy: ‘We had a fantastic regatta, fantastic weather and great sea conditions, the best possible ones for racing. It’s a pleasure, as a sponsor, to see this event growing. There are more boats, more people and the level of technical skills is really high, my compliments and my thanks go to the real stars of this event, the sailors who participate.’
