Antigua Yacht Club (February 19, 2017) – Persistence paid for Antiguan Bernie Evan Wong as his Reichel/Pugh X-Treme 37 Taz won IRC Class 1 in the 9th edition of the Royal Ocean Racing Club Caribbean 600. Reichel/Pugh Yacht Design wishes a warm congratulations to Team TAZ – Carbon Beast as well as to all of the 2017 competitors.

Taz not only won their class, but also claimed Best Caribbean Boat. “Unbelievable, just amazing,” smiled Bernie, full of emotion. “The team worked so hard, but was also a really happy bunch. I remember trying to take a rest but I couldn’t sleep because there was so much laughter on the boat. We are the smallest boat in the race and to beat all of the big boats in our class is like a dream come true,” he told RORC press.

“Winning class in this race is proving more and more difficult as the quality of the competition increases each year. The weather was the biggest factor this year, but the persistence shown by every boat to complete this race is admirable. However, competitors enjoyed some of the best sailing conditions imaginable once the front had gone through. The combination of a challenging race, sunshine and warm water in beautiful surroundings makes this a totally unique offshore race,” commented RORC Chief Executive, Eddie Warden Owen.

The X-Treme 37 (RP Design No. 142) was designed by Reichel/Pugh for G-Force Yachts in 2003. The all new Reichel/Pugh designed X-Treme 32 builds on this successful collaboration with a hull form honed to deliver performance across a wide wind range. Designed to be a flat-out racer that delivers the thrill of a high-performance design as well as the ability to capture podium positions. For all the details read on at X-Treme 32.
