Reichel/Pugh 68 Fast Performance Cruiser To Be Built By Baltic Yachts

June 19, 2018 · Posted by kate

One of the newest Reichel/Pugh projects is a custom 68′ Fast Performance Cruiser to be built by Baltic Yachts in Finland.

The yacht is designed for short-handed long-distance offshore cruising with the ability to very comfortably overnight at weekend destinations. While comfort and aesthetics are the priority, the owner is also focused on a performance design that can excel on the race course. The result is a hi-tech composite structure with a gorgeous interior that will no-doubt provide a highly-rewarding sailing experience.

Reichel/Pugh President Jim Pugh explains that, “The all-carbon composite, fixed keel, twin-rudder sloop with a powerful square-top main ensure exceptional performance on the race course. A captive winch-controlled mainsheet and powered winches provide safe and easy sail handling while cruising with a pin head main and furling jib.”

Key to the project will be weight control with the extensive use of resin infused carbon laminates helping to keep light ship weight down to 24.2 tons. Composite engineering will be performed by Gurit working closely with Reichel/Pugh and Baltic Yachts to ensure a light and stiff structure.

Interior design and styling will be in collaboration between Reichel/Pugh and Baltic Yachts. Accommodations include a raised saloon, an owner’s stateroom with an en-suite bathroom and head, two double guest cabins and two forward crew berths. Features of the yacht include a large transom door to provide a swimming platform, a carbon bowsprit for Code and asymmetric sails, an 8-ton keel and an all carbon rig.

Construction for the new yacht will be condensed to just 12 months and be delivered in October 2019 for the 2020 Caribbean regatta and cruising season.

The Reichel/Pugh Team, Baltic Yachts and Gurit Engineers are very much looking forward to working together in developing this project with a client who is an accomplished yachtsman.
