October 1, 2015 · Posted by kate

Reichel/Pugh’s latest creation, design #260 the 35-meter Superyacht, combines grand prix racing speeds with an ultra elegant cruising program.

Whether it is performance cruising, offshore racing, or the Americas Cup, Reichel/Pugh Yacht Design has had unparalleled success at producing some of the worlds most distinctive and consistently rewarding sailing yachts including designs that have continuously won major regattas over several decades. The world-renowned naval architecture and engineering firm’s latest creation design # 260, the Fast 35-meter Superyacht, combines grand prix racing speeds with an ultra elegant cruising program in a modern, and truly versatile package.

A primary goal of R/P is to develop designs that have longevity and continue winning many season’s after launching.  “We develop our next generation Superyachts hull shapes incorporating into the design the on-the-water experiences from all our designs and the results of our latest hull studies in computational fluid dynamics,” says Jim Pugh. “All areas of our designs are open for development with focus on hull development, on improving the underwater foil package, reducing windage and improving the yacht’s seakeeping, systems and function.  In tandem the collocated R/P engineering team advances the State of the Art in composite structural design improving stiffness and strength, while lowering the VCG and further improving the yachts stability.”

Nearly eight years in the making, R/P’s 100’ design for Italian builder Wally Yachts, the Wallycento MAGIC CARPET 3, won the 2014 Wally Championship and overall the 2015 220 nautical mile Mediterranean Classic, the Giraglia Race. It also notably has wins at the Les Voiles de St Tropez, Palmavela Regatta and Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup. R/P recently launched their second generation Wallycento (100’) GALATEIA, built by Green Marine, GALATEIA is heading to the winter cruising grounds of the Caribbean.

Following on the huge success of the 100’ Wallycento MAGIC CARPET 3, the 147’ VISIONE, winner of the 2015 St Barths Bucket and the 112’ NILAYA, and leveraging over thirty years of design knowledge, Reichel/Pugh’s experience has culminated in the creation of the hybrid 35-meter superyacht – the latest generation of superyacht design. A critical emphasis is placed on providing a responsive and rewarding experience for the helmsperson.  Hull and appendage hydrodynamics, perfected rig positioning and a structure optimized for strength and stiffness provide a reassuring feeling of stability and control especially in more arduous wind and sea conditions.

R/P’s last superyacht in this size range was the hugely successful 34m NILAYA who’s interior and style was by Nauta Yachts of Milan. NILAYA, R/P design #178 was designed in 2007, built by Baltic Yachts and went on to be the most successful superyacht of the era winning the Superyacht Maxi Class of the Maxi Rolex Cup in 2011,12 and 2013.

The fast 35m luxury performance cruiser has been designed to marry the on-deck and interior living spaces. The ultra-flush teak decks feature an ergonomic layout for racing and a protected social guest cockpit seating ten and a wide aft sun lounge. The glass-topped coachroof allows light to fill the raised saloon while lowering vertical glass panes brings the outside in.

For the interior design Reichel/Pugh teamed with U.K. based Design Unlimited. Lead by founder Mark Tucker, Design Unlimited is well known across the boat industry for its fresh and stylish approach to interior design and exterior styling. Over the years the studio has created designs for modern luxury motoryachts, large sailing superyachts, classic gentlemen’s yachts and even racing yachts. Each time its members have worked with the owner and his team to create something distinctive and exciting, yet at the same time very personal and which works on the practical as well as aesthetic level.

Two general arrangements are being offered providing prospective clients a choice of layout. The first features a forward master suite with cinema snug, day-head and twin cabin. Aft accommodation features generous VIP cabin and mid-ships galley with crew quarters further aft. The second arrangement features a large full beam master suite with walk-in wardrobe aft, VIP and twin cabins at mid-ships and crew accommodation just forward of the Galley and TV is a snug fourth Cabin.
