66′ Mini Maxi Alive Sweeps California Offshore Races and Sets New Course Record

San Diego, California (June 2, 2019) – Reichel/Pugh 66’ Canting Keel Mini Maxi ALIVE (formerly Black Jack & Stark Raving Mad) was first to finish (correcting to 7th) in the 5th annual SoCal 300 (300nm), following back-to-back line honor wins in the Spinnaker Cup (San Francisco Bay to Monterey), Coastal Cup (Monterey to Santa Barbara) and Newport-Ensenada. Alive also set a new course record for the 200nm Coastal Cup of 13h 48m 28s. Congratulations to owner Phillip Turner, skipper Duncan Hine and the entire Australian-based Alive Yachting team, who most notably won the 2018 Sydney-Hobart overall. The three-part CA Offshore Race Week now complete, the Alive team is taking on the competitive 17-boat Division 1 in the Transpac Race starting July 10th.

2016 – Overall IRC winner and ORCi winner in the 10th Anniversary Edition of the Club Marine 348nm Brisbane to Keppel Tropical Yacht Race.
2016 – Overall winner of the Royal Langkawi International Regatta.
2016 – Line Honours in the 2016 Rolex China Sea Race, setting a new record for the race of 47h 31m 08s, 11 minutes and 59 seconds inside Beau Geste’s record, set back in the millennium edition.
2015 – Back-to-back champion of the Sail Paradise Regatta for 2015 and 2014 inaugural regatta.
2014 – First place ORCi and IRC overall in the 2014 Brisbane to Gladstone 308 n.m. race.
2014 – Smashed the record for the 1885 nautical mile Melbourne to Port Vila ocean race. Winning Line Honours and IRC as well as cementing a new race record of 5 days, 23 hours, 52 minutes and 45 seconds.
2014 – Second overall IRC Division 1 at Hamilton Island Race Week.
2014 – First IRC overall in Sail Paradise Regatta.

Alive Wins Newport to Ensenada Race Following Sydney-Hobart Victory

Ensenada, Mexico (April 28, 2019) – Congratulations to all competitors in the 72nd annual Newport to Ensenada (125nm). On the heels of its 2018 Sydney-Hobart victory, the Australian-based Reichel/Pugh 66’ Canting Keel Mini Maxi ALIVE (formerly Black Jack & Stark Raving Mad) earned the NOSA Trophy for overall best elapsed time, the Amigo Trophy awarded to a first-time skipper and the Lahaina Yacht Club Trophy for best elapsed time all PHRF. R/P Canting Keel Designs Dominate the 2016 Brisbane to Keppel Race (348nm)

Rosslyn Bay, Australia (August 6, 2016) – RP100 Wild Oats XI demolishes her own race record in Brisbane to Keppel Race!

Congratulations to the crew of the Reichel/Pugh designed and McConaghy Boats built 100’ Canting Keel Super Maxi Wild Oats XI for taking Line Honors and breaking the course record she previously set in 2011. Wild Oats XI completed the course in 16 hours, 56 minutes and 30 seconds, beating her previous record by over seven hours. Read on at Sail World.

Throwback Thursday: Stark Raving Mad

Last week, team members Will Cyr and Adrian Sawyer toured Westerly Marine with the local Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers (SNAME), where Alive (Ex. Stark Raving Mad) was built in 2006.

Alive formerly known as Black Jack, was acquired by Tasmanian businessman Phillip Turner from Peter Harburg early in 2014 and is currently racing out of Brisbane and registered with the Derwent Sailing Squadron, Tasmania. Alive was originally launched in the US in 2006 as Stark Raving Mad and owned and campaigned by Jim Madden. At 66 foot Alive fits into the ‘mini-maxi’ size category. Her narrow, light and canting keel combined with a powerful new Southern Spar rig makes her a technically advanced and challenging boat. Read More …
