MELGES 32 ‘ANARCHY’ ROCKS, PLACING 2ND OVERALL IN FLEET BY 25 SECONDS IN EPIC NEWPORT TO ENSENADA RACE

Ensenada, Mexico (April 25, 2016) – MELGES 32 ANARCHY finished the Newport to Ensenada with a course time of 12:45:21, and lost overall corrected time for Monohulls by 25 seconds. Read on for the race report by owner of Anarchy Racing Scot Tempesta.

“The Newport to Ensenada race was one for the ages. Sailing my Melges 32 Anarchy, we reveled in the 15-22 knot breeze that blew for nearly the entire race. Never have I sailed a boat that is quite a weapon in that stuff like the 32. The thing is a beast, and the wettest boat, both on deck and down below ever!

We did the race in 12 hours and change, which is completely unheard of for a boat this size. The bad news? We lost first overall corrected time for monohulls (and our class win) by 25 seconds. Good christ did that suck. We of course lamented of how many places we left that time on the racecourse, but that’s just the way in goes sometimes. Huge thanks to Mel Wills, Andrew LaPlant, Rodrigo Doll, Paige Johnstone and Sean Kelley for busting their asses all race long.”

Anarchy went on to mention that, “… If there’s one thing the Melges 24 and 32 have proved, it’s that these dedicated one-design boats absolutely slaughter in handicap trim – and they last.”

NEWPORT TO ENSENADA RACE HISTORY
First run in 1948, the N2E has a storied history of mixing professional racers, celebrities and recreational sailors to become a time-honored steeped in tradition event for Newport Beach, the city of Ensenada and sailing enthusiasts who come from across the country to compete. More than 40 trophy categories in monohull, multihull and cruising classes give this a race a wide appeal. In recent years, great winds have tested and challenged the skills of crews, many who only sail overnight on this race.
