Wizard sets 2017 Ft. Lauderdale to Key West Race Record

Key West, Florida (January 11, 2017) – David and Peter Askew and their all-star crew on the Reichel Pugh design no. 191, the 74’ Wizard took fleet line honors and set a new mono-hull course record in the 160nm Ft. Lauderdale to Key West Race with a course time of 10 hours 18 mins & 50 seconds. The previous record was set by Joe Dockery’s 81’ Carrera Reichel/Pugh design #101 in 2005. Wizard also took 1st place on corrected time under IRC.

Design #191 is not new to the winners circle, as Hap Fauth’s Bella Mente they won the Barn Door Trophy and set a new fixed ballast course record in the 2011 Transpac. R/P design 191 returned to the Transpac as Wizard in 2013, again winning the coveted first to finish Barn Door Trophy.

Reichel/Pugh designs currently hold the Transpac course records for both fixed and moveable ballast designs, having set new Transpac course records four times since 1999, and have taken elapsed time honors in nine of the last ten Transpacs. Bella Mente won the Mini Maxi Season Championship in 2009.

Bill Bollin’s Melges 32 BadFish took elapsed time and corrected time honors under PHRF in the Ft. Lauderdale – Key West race.

Transpac 2011: Bella Mente Takes the Barn Door

Bella Mente Finishes First in the 2011 Transpac Race, Winning the Barn Door Trophy and setting a New Course Record.

Congratulations Hap Fauth and the crew of the Mini Maxi Bella Mente for their record setting performance in the 2011 Transpac Race.

Transpacific Yacht Club, Hawaii, USA (July 15th, lato 2011) – Hap Fauth’s Reichel/Pugh designed and New England Boatworks built Mini Maxi Bella Mente crossed the finish line off Diamond Head, Hawaii at 05:34:28 HST finishing first in the 46th runnning of the 2225 nautical mile Transpac Race. Hap Fauth’s East Coast based Bella showed the best from the West the way to Hawaii with a blistering pace of 13.59 knots given the conditions were moderate to light. Bella won the unique Transpacific Yacht Club Perpetual Trophy – a 3.5′ x 4′ plaque of hand carved Hawaiian Koa wood – better know as the ‘Barn Door’ traditionally awarded to the fixed keel cheap mlb jerseys monohull yacht employing no SA3D stored energy with the fastest elapsed time. Bella Mente set a New Barn Door course record of 6 days, 19 hours 39 minutes 28 seconds beating the record of 7 days and 11 hours set in 1999 by Roy Disney’s RP75, Pyewacket the III. Bella Mente won the 2009 Mini cheap nfl jerseys Maxi Season Championship.
