May 26, 2011 · Posted by Reichel/Pugh

Versatility and performance are at the forefront of the Aquila RP45 Racer/Cruiser design concept.  Upon commencing the design process for the boat, it was clear that the ultimate goal was to produce a fast, fun, and competitive inshore and offshore racer-cruiser that was as comfortable on the cruising grounds as it was on the race course.  As Boats difficult as it can be to achieve cheap jerseys free shipping these goals, the end product’s primary attributes lend themselves to this versatility:  moderate volume, high stability, a comfortable interior, modern appendages, and a manageable sailplan; all combined in a hull sa form born from the highest levels of grand-prix racing.

The hull form and appendages are direct descendants of the Reichel/Pugh Yacht Design office’s most recent developments in grand prix IRC and box rule racing.  Through continuous analysis of existing yacht configurations and development of future hull forms through computational research, full scale analysis of performance data and continuous feedback from some of the world’s leading sailing programs, the design team is able to remain at the forefront of modern yacht design and ahead of the competition. All of this knowledge was brought into the development of the Aquila RP45 Racer/Cruiser.  The hull form and appendage package are focused on performance and speed, but without sacrificing control on any point of sail in any sea conditions.  The general performance target for the cheap nba jerseys Aquila RP45 Racer/Cruiser was a well-rounded yacht that can perform in all conditions.  The hull form exhibits low upright wetted surface that allows it to perform well in the light breeze, but the stability increases quickly when heeled to provide performance and comfortable sailing in heavier air.  This versatility ensures that the yacht will be competitive under all racing conditions, both inshore and offshore and would make an ideal club racer.

The appendage sections and keel and rudder shape are developments of Reichel/Pugh Yacht Design’s latest research and are configured to offer full control to the helmsman in all conditions and through downwind maneuvers.  The bulb is a direct development from the design team’s latest research.

The Aquila RP45 Racer/Cruiser composite structure was engineered by Reichel-Pugh in full compliance with ISO 12215 and the latest ISAF OSR Scantling Plan Approval requirements for Category 1 racing and Plan Approved by Germanischer Lloyd (GL). The engineering was approached with a full grand-prix mentality and the end goal to save overall weight and increase stiffness where it is most needed while maintaining the design safety factors required to make the Aquila RP45 Racer/Cruiser a fully offshore capable yacht. Detailed structural design and analysis and a careful selection of materials and building techniques has allowed the development of a weight, stiffness and cost optimized structure that does not compromise quality, finishing or racing characteristics.

The deck is styled with a modern open transom, shallow cockpit floor and low windage geometry. The deck layout has been optimized for racing with twin steering wheels and twin backstay winches, an aft of the steering stations traveller and German underdeck mainsheets while maintaining cruiser styling, comforts and characteristics such as the coaming seating and the coachroof that provide more headroom in the interior. The bowsprit is fully optimized for racing performance while also allowing for a practical all all-purpose downwind furling sail for cruising.

In the interior the yacht is efficiently fitted out for overnight offshore cruising and racing with a twin owner’s v berth forward, a fully enclosed head, a settee lounge sitting area with a fully equipped galley with sink and storage and a built in navigation station and more berths on the aft part of the yacht.
