Oyster Teams Up with Reichel/Pugh for 33m Project Alpha

December 22, 2017 · Posted by kate

Reichel/Pugh are proud to announce a collaboration with British yard, Oyster Yachts. The R/P studio is developing the naval architecture for the next generation of Superyacht design, the 33.53m Project Alpha will feature luxury accommodations for offshore cruising and superyacht regatta performance.

This carbon fiber sloop is being developed for a repeat client who prefers to fly to his yacht rather than cruise long distances. Summarizing the contrast between the 110’ Project Alpha and the yard’s in-build Oyster 118’ flagship, CEO David Tydeman said: “The choice is perhaps akin to a decision about whether to drive a Range Rover [the Oyster 118] or an Aston Martin [Project Alpha].”

Accommodation on board Project Alpha is for up to eight guests split across four en-suite staterooms, including a full-beam master suite in the bow. Meanwhile, the crew quarters allows for a staff of up to six people and a stern-loading garage provides tender storage.  Two coach-roof designs have been created, with a wedge deck (top image) and a more traditional Oyster-style deck. The design has already attracted significant interest and Oyster will be developing female molds.

In a similar weight-class, Reichel/Pugh’s two 100’ Wallycento’s, the Galateia and Magic Carpet³ not only showcase impeccable styling, but proved their performance capability by finishing the four-regatta 2017 Wally Season Championship in first and second place overall. The Wally Class Championship series concluded at Les Voiles de Saint Tropez with a 13-boat fleet and included Palmavela in Palma de Mallorca, the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta and Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup both in Porto Cervo.
