RP130 My Song Crowned 2017 Sailing Yacht of the Year

May 15, 2017 · Posted by kate

Florence, Italy (May 13, 2017) – Recognizing the remarkable ingenuity and innovation demanded by the design, engineering and construction of the world’s finest luxury yachts, 20 winners of the World Superyacht Awards 2017 have been announced and Reichel/Pugh’s 130′ My Song has a won for 2017 Sailing Yacht of The Year in the 30m to 39.99m category. WSA judges highlighted the importance of the collaboration between Nauta Design, Reichel/Pugh and Baltic Yachts, and award the extraordinary result this team achieved by combining a remarkably elegant aesthetic with amazing speed. My Song not only performs well on the race course, regularly reaching 20+ knots and boasting a top-speed in excess of 30-knots in optimum conditions, but is also a comfortable, feature-filled, state-of-the-art cruising yacht with excellent facilities for on-deck and below-deck dining and relaxing. She features three generously-sized en suite guest cabins, and an exemplary crew area for six in the stern. Come aboard to explore (photos). Reichel/Pugh wishes all those who submitted and the winners a warm congratulations.

“Reichel/Pugh, Nauta and Baltic triumph with things you don’t see: a sophisticated, fully retractable, azimuthing propeller, hydraulic and line runs hidden in the bulwarks to reduce deck thickness, a “crush nose” on the keel bulb to reduce impact and damage of a grounding, and a construction weight-shaving program by the yard that rendered even small parts such as electrical cable trays in carbon fibre. Even the interior has some weight-saving tricks with resin-coated linen used for floors, countertops and bulkheads. In three hours the rig can be switched from a typical cruising mainsail to a flat-topped main and split running backstays for racing. For stowing the 400kg Code Zero racing headsail, a very large drum hidden in the forepeak coils the 55m sail. For cruising, the wide stern creates a sheltered sunbathing area that features hydraulic seating integrated into the flush decks.”

Reichel/Pugh Design Nᴼ 256 – 68’ Fast Performance Cruiser
Comfortable cruising, day sailing and racing all in one beautiful yacht

Builder Baltic Yachts notes, “This spectacular 68ft silver-hulled, fast cruiser/racer for a repeat customer should deliver a highly rewarding sailing experience for her short-handed crew. The all carbon composite fixed keeler is bristling with performance enhancing features including a powerful square-top main, a retractable propulsion system, race boat style appendages and titanium fittings, plus a sophisticated and comfortable interior. As her captain said: “This is as a high performing cruising yacht that can excel on the race course.” A captive winch-controlled mainsheet and a powered winch for the asymmetric hoist take the weight out of handling. Displacing just 17 tons, almost 8 tons of which is in the keel, her advanced composite hull is built of pre-preg carbon over a Kevlar honeycomb core with Corecell used in slamming areas. A lot of attention was paid to fairing the bottom and appendages to the same standard as the topsides. Build time was just 18 months.” Read More …
