R/P Trio at the 2017 Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta

Porto Cervo, Italy (June 4, 2017) – The ninth annual 2017 Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta, organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) and Boat International Media, opened the Mediterranean superyacht calendar and was graced by three of the lastest R/P superyachts:

MY SONG, Sail: ITA 2311, Class: Superyacht, Length: 39.6m, Builder: Baltic Yacht, Designers: Reichel/Pugh and Nauta
GALATEIA, Sail: CAY 1002, Class: WallyCento, Length: 30.48m, Builder: Green Marine, Designers: Reichel/Pugh and Wally
MAGIC CARPET 3, Sail: GBR 1001R, Class: WallyCento, Length: 30.5m, Builder: Wally, Designers: Reichel/Pugh and Wally

The duel between the two Reichel/Pugh designed WallyCentos Magic Carpet 3 and Galateia ended with back-to-back wins by Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones’ Magic Carpet 3, with President Jim Pugh aboard, to become the 2017 overall winner of the Wally class. MC3 also received the IMA Trophy for the highest placed IMA Member as well as the YCCS Trophy for the highest placed YCCS Member. This follows triumphs at the 2008 and 2014 Maxi Yacht World Championship, also in Porto Cervo. Galateia, with Senior Naval Architect Tony Beale aboard, Jeremy Robinson calling tactics and Simon Fisher as navigator, finished runners up in the Wally class. The award winning 130′ My Song (2017 World Superyacht Award Sailing Yacht of the Year in the 30m to 39.99m category and ShowBoats Design Awards Most Innovative Sailing Yacht of 2017) started its first full season competing in the Superyacht class with a close fourth place finish.
