The Magic Carpet Story Featured in Seahorse Magazine

March 15, 2015

After a successful season winning in Sardinia and St Tropez Sir Lindsay Owen Jones sat down with Seahorse Magazine’s Blue Robinson to reflect on a passion for combining speed with elegance that stems from childhood dingy sailing, racing cars and love of family. In partnership with Reichel/Pugh Yacht Design and Luca Bassani of Wally, MC3 marked the peak of performance cruising technology and birth of the Wallycento Class.

Pictured: The Reichel/Pugh designed Magic Carpet 3 arrives in Genoa in very light air to take line honours in the long race of the Giraglia. For a high-volume, commodious yacht, what has most distinguished this boat from her similarly sized peers is her excellent light-air pace – a direct result of rigorous weight management during build.

Reichel/Pugh designs have not only been the impetus of a racing/cruising class, but continue to push technology through iterative hull design, strategic interior and deck architecture, an extended computational fluid dynamics research program now spanning several years, and accumulated racing data analysis.
